Deuter Dry-Shield - Protection down the line

With its new Dry-Shield series Deuter has established itself as the market leader in innovation and technology among backpack manufacturers. Dry-Shield is Deuter’s unique protection against splash water and wetness.

There are many hikers and outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy the idea that their backpack has an integrated rain cover but always wait too long to use it, lose or don’t use it because they find it unpractical. All those will give Deuter’s backpack line a warm welcome as the new Dry-Shield series doesn’t need any rain covers to keep the equipment dry even in heavy rainfall. This is because the main seams of Dry-Shield backpacks are no longer sewed but sealed using high-frequency welding. This protects the backpacks better than any rain cover. Thanks to the Dry-Shield technology it is no longer necessary to stop to fit the raincover. You simply walk on – without any fuss or trouble.

The Dry-Shield technology becomes possible by modern bonding processing techniques that do without pins and needles. In the process two materials are welded or hot-sealed. This offers various advantages: Stitched seams are weak points as they perforate the material. In addition to this the tiny holes let water pass through. In Dry-Shield processing the material remains intact. It isn’t weakened and has no stitch perforations. However, there are limitations to the bonding technology as far as tear-resistance and processing techniques are concerned. Deuter is honest enough not to pretend that the backpack is entirely waterproof because it truly isn’t –. Since a true carrying system always has to be sewed.

The Dry-Shield series consists of three models. The 18 litres DS Bike, the 20 litres DS Hike and the 30 litres DS Alpine. Although these models are specifically named they can be applied to many sports. Their names refer to the proven Deuter back systems. The DS-Bike has got the light and airy Airstripes back, the Hike offers the convenient Aircomfort carrying system and the Alpine features the classical Alpine back system.

Details: Mesh side pockets, water resistance zippers, compartments for valuables and side compression straps on the two larger models. The DS models are made of robust Durotex-polyamide with a high-performance coating and water-proof to 10,000 millimetres water column.
