Waterproof Textile Bike Panniers

In 2008, Deuter’s Dry Shield system has set its sights on new horizons. After its successful introduction to backpacks, Deuter will now be using the innovative Dry Shield technology for its bike panniers.

With its Dry Shield bike panniers, Deuter has entered the realms of top class bike panniers – in its very own style. Whereas waterproof bike panniers were traditionally made from stiff tarpaulin-like material and were awkward to handle, these DS Rack Packs come in soft, flowing shapes and two-tone designs. A real treat for the eyes!

The materials used in Deuter’s Dry Shield technology are not sewn by needle and thread but welded using ultra-sound. That is what makes the seams waterproof. The fabric used is extremely tough nylon with special carbonite PU coating, which in itself is extremely durable and waterproof.

The panniers are fixed safely to the bike frames using the new QL1 Ortlieb hooks. Deuter’s Dry Shield panniers include the DS Rack Pack back pannier and the low-rider DS Rack Pack LR.

With 48 litres combined volume at the back and 38 litres combined volume at the front, the DS Rack Packs offer plenty of space, even for a long journey. The panniers are also waterproof from above thanks to their roll-down Velcro closures.

Aside from their Dry Shield bags, Deuter has also reworked their conventionally sewn bags and accessories.

The sewn Rack Pack bags are now more technical with extra little details. The rain cover has disappeared into the base compartment, allowing the lid compartment to be fully used. Mesh outer pockets can be used for wet gear or to store smaller items safely.

A further new development in the panniers line is the Bike Bag First Aid Kit, which has been designed to be stored in a saddlebag. The contents have been geared towards potential bike-specific accidents (grazes and shoulder injuries). At under 1 litre volume and weighing 165gm the Bike Bag First Aid Kit is a must for any responsible biker.
