Gym preparation for hiking and trekking

Technically... Spring has Sprung, it's now light when I leave for work in the morning and when I get home at night, wonderful. To me that means Summer, but then I only believe in 2 seasons; Summer and Winter. That's need-a-coat and don't-need-a-coat weather.  Walk-briskly-on-the-beach and stroll-on-the-beach weather.

So having neglected my body horrendously over the past few (12) months, I vow to get back into shape to a point where a short weekend hike won't need 2 weeks annual leave immediately afterwards to recover. So back in the gym I go. read more »

Will the foot and mouth scare have a negative affect on hiking in the UK?

BASIC EXPEDITION LEADERSHIP (SPORTS LEADERS UK - LEVEL 2)

The Boys' Brigade in Birmingham are organising a BEL course delivered over four weekends and three day-long sessions between April and July 2008. To complete the BEL you will also be required to undertake 30 hours working and leading groups. This is an ideal course for those wishing to instruct within the Expedition Section of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award at Bronze and Silver levels in open countryside; work towards the Service Section of the Award if over 17 years of age; develop outdoor leadership skills and is a recognised National Governing Body qualification. read more »
